FLORENCE, S.C. — Two people were hurt Friday night when an SUV ran off South Cashua Drive in Florence, clipped a power pole and slammed into a house, Florence County Fire Rescue said.
Firefighters were sent to the 500 block of the road around 9:30 p.m. Both injured people were treated at the scene and then taken by Florence County EMS to a nearby hospital. Crews were told a man ran from the wreck before officers got there.
The damaged pole left the neighborhood in the dark. Traffic lights and streetlights stopped working along a stretch running from Cashua Drive and Second Loop Road over to Edisto Drive, and nearly 900 homes lost power.
South Cashua Drive was closed from West Palmetto Street to Second Loop Road while fire rescue crews stayed on scene. They waited for Duke Energy to make the broken pole safe so power could be restored.
Drivers heading through the area should treat any dark signal as an all-way stop. Fire officials described the crash as an active investigation.
