EFFINGHAM, S.C. — Two people suffered critical injuries Sunday afternoon when the truck they were riding in left Francis Marion Road and slammed into trees in Florence County’s Effingham community.
By 2:50 p.m., Engine 728 and Rescue 713 from the county fire service were headed to the 5500 block of the road, close to Ingram Lumber Company. Before units got there, dispatchers relayed that both people were pinned in the wreck and that the engine of the truck had come to rest on one of them.
Firefighters cut both occupants free. Florence County EMS brought two medic units and took the pair to an area hospital. Their names and current conditions were not released.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is working to determine what caused the truck to leave the road. Drivers were warned to expect delays near the scene while crews worked.
