FLORENCE, S.C. — One person was hurt when a septic pumping truck tumbled over several times and came to rest among trees beside Southborough Road in Florence County this week.
Florence County Fire Rescue crews were sent to the 4100 block of the road around 10 a.m. after the rollover was reported. County EMS treated the injured person and took them away for more care. Their condition was not released.
Because a septic tank truck can carry hazardous waste, responders asked state environmental officials and the county emergency response team to check the wreck. The state agency involved was the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services.
After looking over the truck and the ground around it, crews found the tank had held its load, and the site was cleared with no environmental problems.
The truck also knocked out a fire hydrant during the crash, which brought the City of Florence Water Department to the scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating what caused the wreck and arranged for a towing company to haul the truck away.
