FLORENCE, S.C. — Florence shoppers will get their first Pee Dee Publix when the chain opens a 46,791-square-foot supermarket at Palmetto Place and brings on about 140 associates.
Company media staff put the ribbon-cutting for Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, with the doors unlocking at 7 o’clock. Jared Glover, Publix’s media relations manager, said associates are ready to offer the chain’s usual service style and to support community groups once the store is live.
Until now the regional grocer has skipped the Pee Dee market, so Florence County residents who wanted that brand had to leave the area. The corporate notice names Palmetto Place as the Florence site.
Recruiting for those associate jobs is underway ahead of the holiday season. Coverage of the announcement centered on the floor size, the hire target and the mid-November start date rather than a full department list.
Local retail watchers see another large grocery footprint landing inside the Florence trade area before Thanksgiving shopping peaks.
