FLORENCE, S.C. — Man 2 Man used its fifth yearly mayoral and leadership luncheon in Florence to outline wider help for dads who owe child support and a school pilot that coaches teens on setting goals.
Roughly 100 civic guests filled the Florence Housing Authority event, among them mayors, teachers, business owners and elected officials from the six counties the nonprofit covers. Every service it offers is free of charge.
Board Chairman Jamal Campbell said the Pee Dee still struggles with violence and argued that tighter family bonds and easier access to support can ease that pressure when local governments buy in. The group sits under the state Center for Fathers and Families and has worked the region for more than two decades.
Executive Director Derrick Dease said the lunch helps mayors and lawmakers see what free tools already exist. Aiming For Success would give schools a five- to 10-week curriculum on goal setting. Partner agencies also talked about tying addiction treatment into the nonprofit’s outreach.
Campbell said state money is already earmarked to grow the work in Dillon County, and the group still needs gifts for interview clothes, dress shoes and work boots. Churches, employers and city halls were asked to keep writing checks and opening doors.
