FLORENCE, S.C. — Downtown Florence will turn into one big street party on Saturday, Nov. 7, when the 22nd South Carolina Pecan Music and Food Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free, though rides and some attractions cost extra.
Organizers are planning nine music stages and 280 vendors, about 70 of them selling food. Every food vendor has to offer at least one item made with pecans.
Headliners include Jason Scheff, the former lead singer of Chicago, and a Tina Turner tribute act, with country, gospel, jazz and blues sets through the day. A classic car show, a chalk art contest, a kids Fun Zone and a bigger STEM Zone, where children can look at the sun through solar telescopes, round out the grounds.
The morning starts with the Run Like a Nut 5K, 10K and half marathon on a flat course that some runners use to qualify for the Boston and New York marathons.
Nearly 50,000 people came last year. Festival leaders put the yearly economic impact near $3 million, and the downtown development office says hotel stays climb about 13 percent that weekend.
Parking downtown is tight, so organizers are steering visitors to a park-and-ride shuttle offered by MUSC and the Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority.
