FLORENCE, S.C. — Parents and caregivers in Florence can have their children’s car seats looked over at no cost on Monday, Oct. 26, when Florence County Fire Rescue teams up with Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal for an afternoon checkup.
The checkup is set for the 4395 S. Irby Street site, between 3 and 5 p.m. Trained child passenger safety technicians will walk families through hands-on installation so seats are secured correctly before the next drive.
The coalition is led by McLeod Health and focuses on teaching parents how to choose and use the right seat for a child’s age and size. Families with questions can reach the group at 843-777-5021.
Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal is one of nine local coalitions supported by the South Carolina Department of Public Health, which certifies Child Passenger Safety technicians statewide. Its territory covers 11 counties, including Florence, Darlington, Dillon, Marion and Horry.
State health officials note that a car seat inspection is free, though many inspection stations ask families to book an appointment ahead of time, which makes a walk-up event like Monday’s an easy option.
