FLORENCE, S.C. — Voters in Florence One Schools will fill four school board seats on the Nov. 3 ballot, and two of those races have more than one candidate.
The seats up this cycle are numbers four, six, eight and nine. The busiest race is for seat eight, where Bryan Chapman, Carol Hill and Terry B. Law Sr. are running. In seat four, Gloria Q. Bracey faces Gloria C.L. Jones.
The other two seats are not contested. Trisha C. Caulder is the only name listed for seat six, and Davy Gregg is alone on the ballot for seat nine. All board races are nonpartisan, so no party label appears beside the candidates.
The board oversees Florence County School District One, which is also among the largest employers in the Florence area, so its budget and hiring choices reach well beyond the classroom.
Of the five candidates in contested races, three are seeking the seat eight post, making it the only three-way school board race on the Florence One ballot this fall.
