TIMMONSVILLE, S.C. — A Timmonsville man accused of shooting at a town police officer was taken into custody Saturday after a standoff at a Florence home, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies identified him as Marcus Bolton, 27. Investigators say the officer came under fire as Bolton ran from an area where several shootings had happened earlier. The officer was not hurt.
Deputies later found Bolton at a house on Laurel Lane in Florence, and a brief standoff there ended with his arrest by sheriff’s SWAT officers. His charges include having a weapon while committing a violent crime.
Bolton remains jailed in the county lockup in Florence while he waits to go before a judge on bond. Sheriff T.J. Joye heads the agency running the investigation. Felony cases from the county are prosecuted by the solicitor’s office for the 12th Circuit.
Officials have not released details on whether anyone was hurt in the earlier shootings.
