TRENTON, N.J. — A lone ticket bought in New Jersey matched every number in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, landing a jackpot of $847 million, the ninth-biggest top prize the game has ever paid.
The numbers drawn on Nov. 4 were 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56, and the red Powerball was 21. The Power Play multiplier came up 2.
New Jersey lottery officials believe the ticket came from a retailer in Bergen County. The holder has not been identified.
Before taxes, the winner can take a one-time cash payout of $363.1 million or claim the full $847 million as an annuity. Under the annuity option, the money comes as 30 payments that grow each year over 29 years.
The prize lands less than three months after an Illinois ticket claimed a $1.04 billion jackpot on Aug. 12. That August win had followed a run of 35 drawings with no grand-prize winner, and the two jackpots now sit eighth and ninth on the game’s all-time list.
Players everywhere have reason to check their numbers. Lottery officials reported that more than 1 million tickets won some cash in Wednesday’s drawing, including 25 that hit four white balls plus the Powerball for $50,000 and four more that added Power Play to reach $100,000.
The jackpot drops back to $20 million for Saturday’s drawing, and the 10X Power Play multiplier returns while the advertised top prize stays under $150 million. A single $2 play carries roughly a 1 in 292.2 million chance at the grand prize.
