FLORENCE, S.C. — Automotive students at Florence-Darlington Technical College now have a late-model SUV to practice on, after Raceway Ford & Chevrolet gave the school a 2025 Ford Escape.
The gift came through Ford ACE, short for Automotive Career Exploration. Under that program, Ford, its dealers and schools work together at no cost to students, who can take Ford web training and then use those credentials when applying for jobs at Ford and Lincoln dealerships. Dealers can also donate cars, tools and shop equipment.
Keith McKenzie, who chairs the college automotive, diesel and HVAC department, said the Escape lets students move from coursework to real work on inspection, maintenance, diagnosis and repair. He said the car will help them meet what regional auto employers need.
John Isgett, president and CEO of the dealership, said his company depends on well-trained workers and that building that talent starts in the classroom.
The college two-year automotive technology degree includes training on electric vehicles, and FDTC also awards certificates in basic automotive work and auto body repair.
