FLORENCE, S.C. — Households in the Spaulding Heights neighborhood of northeast Florence, close to Quinby, have been told to boil their water after a city water main broke.
The City of Florence said the line failed where High Hampton Road meets Rocky Way Drive, knocking out service nearby while utility crews worked on a repair.
The advisory starts as soon as water comes back on. Until it is lifted, residents should bring tap water to a hard, rolling boil for no less than one full minute before drinking it or cooking with it, and ice is off limits unless it was frozen from boiled water.
City officials said no contamination has been confirmed. The step is a precaution, since a drop in water pressure can let bacteria get into the lines.
The notice stays in place until lab tests show the water is safe, and the city plans to tell affected customers when that changes.
