Hovland, the 2023 FedEx Cup champion, overcame a slow start with two bogeys in his first three holes to finish strong. He climbed the leaderboard with a notable back nine, including an up-and-down from a bunker for a birdie on the final hole. Hovland currently leads the field in strokes gained putting, accumulating nearly 4.7 strokes through 36 holes.
The chase pack includes Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup, who are tied for third at 9-under par after both shooting 67s on Friday. Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young are tied for fifth at 8-under par. Young made a significant move, shooting an 8-under 62 in three hours, including an eagle on the 18th hole. Scheffler, despite an early struggle with two bogeys in his first four holes, recovered to finish with a 3-under 67, securing his spot in the top five.
Further back, Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Adam Scott, and Ludvig Åberg are tied for seventh at 7-under par. Sam Burns, Gary Woodland, Ryan Fox, and Akshay Bhatia are tied for 11th at 6-under par.
