FLORENCE, S.C. — Florence Downtown Development Corporation is among 22 South Carolina organizations sharing Duke Energy Foundation Main Street revitalization grants totaling $190,000.
The foundation is investing the money to strengthen downtown districts, neighborhood centers and commercial corridors. Funds can support facade improvements, wayfinding signage, public gathering spaces and small-business incentive programs or microgrants, with individual awards up to $10,000.
Tim Pearson, Duke Energy South Carolina president, said strong communities start with vibrant places where people connect and support one another. The Downtown Development Department at City Hall facilitates commercial development in Florence’s historic downtown center.
Florence sits in the heart of the Pee Dee region. The city anchors a healthcare-and-logistics economy and serves as the commercial hub for eastern South Carolina. Peer grants also went to communities such as Anderson and Darlington for trail and facade projects.
Local downtown leaders can use the award for storefront and public-space work that fits the city’s downtown master-plan goals already adopted by council.
