FLORENCE, S.C. — Two Florence high school football teams came away with wins Friday night, with South Florence rolling past St. James and Wilson rallying to beat city rival West Florence.
South Florence picked up its sixth straight win with a 51-3 rout of St. James. The Bruins leaned on the ground game, rushing for 317 yards and five touchdowns as a team.
The Bruins also returned to the Top 10 in the latest state football media poll as the regular season enters its final month.
Across town, Wilson scored three rushing touchdowns and its defense held down West Florence as the Tigers earned a 20-14 come-from-behind victory at Knight Stadium.
The rivalry game carried extra weight. West Florence had turned a 1-3 start into a three-game winning streak heading into the week, while Wilson was coming off a Homecoming victory.
Week 8 marked the final month of the regular season for Pee Dee area high school football teams, with region play and playoff seeding now in focus.
