Sponsor Our ArticlesWalmart will remodel 33 stores across South Carolina, including Neighborhood Markets in Goose Creek and Summerville, starting in 2025. These updates aim to enhance the shopping experience through expanded departments, improved displays, and new privacy checkouts. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to modernize over 650 stores. Walmart is committed to strengthening its role as a significant employer and economic contributor in the region with these enhancements, which also include renovations to additional Supercenters and a Sam’s Club.
Walmart has announced plans to remodel 33 stores across South Carolina beginning in 2025, including two Neighborhood Market locations in Goose Creek and one in Summerville. This initiative is part of a larger effort to upgrade over 650 stores nationwide, aiming to enhance the shopping experience for customers.
The updates to the South Carolina stores will include expanded departments featuring a broader selection of items, bolder merchandise displays, and the installation of new privacy checkouts in pharmacy areas. Additionally, Walmart plans to expand the pickup and delivery areas to better accommodate the growing volume of online orders from customers.
The specific locations set for renovations include the Goose Creek stores at 215 Saint James Avenue and 1635 Red Bank Road, as well as the Summerville store located at 10635 Dorchester Road. These upgrades are part of Walmart’s commitment to becoming the favorite shopping destination for South Carolinians.
The Neighborhood Market format typically spans around 40,000 square feet and is designed to focus on convenience for shoppers. Walmart first introduced the Neighborhood Market in 1998 in Bentonville, Arkansas, and brought the concept to the Charleston region in mid-2015. Since that time, Walmart has added four Neighborhood Market locations in Charleston, although no new additions have occurred since 2017.
Walmart stands as the largest private-sector employer in South Carolina, providing jobs for approximately 36,400 workers across 122 stores and eight distribution centers throughout the state. In fiscal year 2024, the corporation reported spending $2.2 billion with South Carolina suppliers, supporting over 20,500 jobs within the region.
In the greater Charleston area specifically, Walmart ranks as the third-largest private-sector employer, employing over 3,900 individuals. This significant workforce contributes to the local economy and underscores Walmart’s long-standing commitment to the state’s communities.
Alongside the Neighborhood Markets, the remodeling initiative will also include a members-only Sam’s Club in Anderson and 22 conventional Walmart Supercenter locations throughout South Carolina. These renovations are part of Walmart’s ongoing efforts to modernize their stores and enhance customer experiences, keeping pace with changing shopping habits and preferences.
In summary, Walmart’s planned remodels for 33 stores across South Carolina, targeting both Neighborhood Markets and Supercenters, are set to begin in 2025. The enhancements aim to provide improved shopping options, reflecting the company’s dedication to meeting consumer needs and reinforcing its status as a major employer and economic contributor in the region.
