South Carolina – The Spinx Company has officially acquired the Buck Mickel Center from Greenville Technical College for $5.25 million. The purchase was completed in August through a legal entity known as Campus HQ QOZB LLC, which is affiliated with Spinx. The property, located at 216 S. Pleasantburg Drive, spans 4.76 acres and features a multistory office building along with a parking lot that can accommodate 248 vehicles.

While formal plans for the use of the acquired property have not yet been disclosed by Spinx, the company indicated that it has long been involved in supporting educational initiatives in the Greenville area. Currently based in Greenville, Spinx operates over 80 locations in South Carolina and North Carolina, specializing in gas stations, convenience stores, and car washes.

The Buck Mickel Center, which was previously utilized by Greenville Technical College’s Continuing Education Division, has a history that dates back to its donation to the college by T. Walter Braisher in 1993. Recently placed on the market following a feasibility study conducted by the college, the site was considered a strategic opportunity for potential buyers given its location and available resources.

Greenville Technical College emphasized that Spinx has been a valuable partner, contributing to educational enhancement and providing scholarships to students. The main campus of Greenville Tech is located less than a mile south on South Pleasantburg Drive, and the college also occupies space in the nearby McAlister Square, which used to be a shopping mall.

Spinx’s corporate offices are situated at 1414 E. Washington St., about one mile from the newly acquired property. This area is a pivotal point of access to downtown Greenville, particularly from the East Washington Street/Laurens Road intersection. Spinx’s corporate offices are directly across the street from the company’s very first gas station. Additionally, the company has ownership of multiple adjacent properties at the East Washington Street and Laurens Road intersection.

Founded in 1972 by Stewart Spinks, who continues to serve as the chairman, Spinx has expanded significantly over the decades. The current CEO, Steve Spinks, who is Stewart’s son, has been leading the company since 2012. Recently, the city of Greenville named a portion of East Washington Street as Stewart Spinks Road in recognition of the company’s contributions to the community.

The area around the newly acquired Buck Mickel Center property is currently undergoing extensive redevelopment with several projects in the pipeline, which could further enhance the local economy and real estate market. The continuing evolution of this neighborhood reflects the drive for growth and modernization in Greenville.
