South Florence Dominates May River with 14-4 Victory in 4A Lower State Softball Playoffs

South Florence showcased a commanding performance in their opening game of the 4A Lower State playoffs, defeating May River 14-4. This victory marked a strong start for South Florence in the playoff bracket as they scored in all but one inning during the match-up.

Leading the way for South Florence was starting pitcher Payton Perry, who delivered an impressive outing by striking out 10 batters and allowing no earned runs. Over six innings pitched, she limited May River to just two hits. This marks Perry’s sixth consecutive appearance where she has not given up more than one earned run. Offensively, she was also a key contributor, reaching base four out of five times, driving in two runs, scoring once herself, and stealing a base.

Teammate Reagan Rowsey also had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, one double, and one RBI. Rylie Rowsey further bolstered the offensive efforts, contributing with a 2-for-4 performance that included three RBIs, two runs scored, and one stolen base. Collectively, South Florence has averaged 10.2 runs over their last six games, highlighting their offensive strength as they improved their overall season record to 23-7.

The loss for May River snapped a nine-game winning streak on the road that dated back to last season, dropping their record to 16-7. Despite the defeat, May River’s Olivia Nagel made notable contributions, going 1-for-3 and driving in two of May River’s four runs.

This game did not schedule future matchups for either team after the playoff conclusion, leaving both teams to reflect on their seasons thus far. For South Florence, the powerful offensive display and strong pitching from Perry make them a formidable contender as the playoffs progress.

As the 4A Lower State playoffs continue, South Florence will look to maintain their momentum from this decisive victory and build upon their successful strategies that have led to a six-game win streak.

The game is an important part of the journey for both teams, with South Florence aiming for potential championship success while May River will look to regroup after this tough playoff experience.
