Florence, South Carolina – Fifteen high school basketball teams from across six classifications in South Carolina are set to compete in the Upper State finals this upcoming week. The finals will take place at the Florence Center, where teams will vie for a chance to advance to the state semifinals and championships.

As the excitement builds for the basketball finals, it’s important to note that the South Carolina High School League baseball playoffs are scheduled to start next week. After the basketball season, the Class 5A baseball championships will adopt a different format than in previous years.
The upcoming best-of-three baseball state championship series is set to kick off on May 24, providing teams a chance to compete for their titles. Meanwhile, the South Carolina Independent Schools Association playoffs are already underway, with championship series expected to start on May 12.
Westside attempted a two-point conversion late in the game, but the attempt was unsuccessful when a trick play was intercepted, sealing their fate. Westside’s standout quarterback, Cutter Woods, had an impressive performance, passing for 384 yards and six touchdowns, while teammate Chamarryus Bomar had four receptions totaling 213 yards and four TDs. Armoni Weaver also made a notable contribution with three catches for 101 yards and one touchdown.
On the opposing side, South Florence’s quarterback, Messiah Jackson, played a pivotal role with two touchdown passes and a one-yard rushing score. His teammate, Jayden Sellers, also made key contributions, catching several TD passes that led to South Florence’s victory.
Westside finished the season with a remarkable 13-1 record, making their championship defeat particularly heartbreaking as it ended their impressive 27-game winning streak.
With the focus shifting towards basketball and baseball, several high school teams, including Blythewood, Lexington, and Wando, are competing in playoffs across various districts. In addition, baseball teams such as Gilbert, Lake View, and Johnsonville are currently caught up in ongoing double elimination brackets, fighting for their shot at championship glory.
As the final games this week unfold, excitement surrounds the teams, players, and fans alike, eager to see who will emerge victorious in basketball and prepare for the adventures that lie ahead in baseball.
