Catch the Snow Moon in Myrtle Beach This February!

Hey, Myrtle Beach! Get ready for a dazzling celestial show this month! February’s full moon, affectionately known as the “Snow Moon,” is set to light up the sky on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. While we might not always be thrilled about snow in February, this moon is sure to be a sight to behold!

When to See the Snow Moon

The magic moment, when the moon reaches its full glory at an impressive 100% illumination, is scheduled for 8:53 a.m. EST. However, for those of us in Myrtle Beach, the moon will have already set by that time, slipping away around 7:15 a.m. If you’re in Florence, it will set just slightly later at 7:20 a.m. But fear not! The Snow Moon will return to delight our eyes later in the evening, rising again around 6:12 p.m. in Myrtle Beach and 6:15 p.m. in Florence. So, mark your calendars!

Will the Clouds Spoil the Show?

Now, here’s the catch! This month boasts an active weather pattern that’s likely bringing clouds and a chance of rain, particularly around midweek. This could pose a challenge for stargazers hoping to catch a glimpse of the radiant Snow Moon. Fingers crossed for a few breaks in the clouds!

High Tides for Beach Lovers

In addition to the astronomical events, we also have some tidal activity to keep things interesting. The Snow Moon also coincides with what’s known as King Tides. These special tides occur during full and new moons, resulting in higher-than-normal high tides and lower-than-normal low tides. From Tuesday through Friday, expect morning high tides to be notably elevated, while low tides dip below the usual. It’s a fantastic opportunity for beachcombers to enjoy some treasure hunting along our beautiful sandy shores!

Snap Those Photos!

If you find yourself capturing any breathtaking images of the Snow Moon, we invite you to share your stunning shots. They could be featured to showcase the beauty of our local skies! So, don’t be shy—snap away! It’s always great to see what other moon gazers in the area are experiencing!

Extra Celestial Treats

And while you’re out there admiring the Snow Moon, keep an eye on the twilight sky! According to space enthusiasts, around this time, four planets will be putting on a spectacle as well. Look for Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn shimmering bright after sunset. It’s a mini cosmic army just waiting for you to notice!

What’s Next After the Snow Moon?

As we cherish February’s full moon, let’s not forget that the next big event is just around the corner! Mark your calendars for the “Worm Moon,” which will shine brightly on March 14. This moon is coined for the earthy creatures surfacing with the warming temperatures, reminding us that spring isn’t too far away.

So, as we prepare for this dazzling Snow Moon and anticipate the beauty of the cosmos, let’s enjoy what February has to offer. Whether under clear or cloudy skies, there’s always something magical about gazing up at the moonlit winter sky!
