Born on March 24, 1969, in Lake City, South Carolina, Rock was the son of the late Ruby Lee Rose Goodman. He was raised in Florence, South Carolina, where he graduated from Wilson High School in the Class of 1987. Throughout his life, Rock was celebrated for his jovial nature and penchant for making others laugh, earning him a reputation as the ultimate jokester.
Rock valued family time and enjoyed his hobbies, which included traveling and savoring good food. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Carolina Panthers, often engaging in spirited discussions about his favorite team. In his professional journey, Rock dedicated several years to working at McLeod Regional Medical Center before discovering his true passion for trucking. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Total Trucking.
Rock is survived by his father, Dr. J.C. Goodman, and Mr. Willie (Iola) James Butler, Jr. He was the proud father of two daughters, Kadija Gee and Kayla Butler, and a cherished grandfather to three grandchildren: Christopher Sowells, Marquis Sowells, and MaKynlei Sowells. Rock is also survived by his four brothers: Jimmy Goodman, Derrick (Nicole) Goodman, John Paul (Bridgette) Goodman, and Jamie Butler; as well as his three special sisters: Ganesha Goodman, Amanda Goodman, and Sarhonda (Anthony) Wilkes. Additionally, he is remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and special sister-in-laws, forming an extended family that cherished their bond with him.
A memorial service honoring Rock’s life will take place on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 12 noon. The service will be held at the Pentecostal United Church of Christ, Apostolic Convention Center in Florence, South Carolina. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Rock’s life, reflecting on the impact he had on all who knew him.
