Peabody – Florence A. (Fain) Shecter, a long-time resident of Peabody, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 92. She was remembered as a caring individual who devoted much of her life to assisting others.

Florence was the cherished wife of the late Philip Shecter and a devoted mother to her children. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Shecter, and her partner David Wilson from Newton, as well as her son, Jim Shecter, and his wife Melissa from South Carolina. Additionally, she leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her greatly.

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, Florence was the daughter of the late Isaac and Ruth E. (Sampson) Fain. She was raised in Lynn, Massachusetts, where she completed her high school education at Lynn Classical High School. Following her graduation, she pursued a career dedicated to public service as a social worker for the Department of Employment in New Hampshire. Florence held this position for many years until her retirement, where she was known for her thoughtfulness and caring nature.

Throughout her life, Florence exemplified a commitment to helping others, often ensuring that no one was left out. She was particularly noted for her willingness to prepare meals for those in need, showcasing her kind-hearted spirit and readiness to lend a helping hand. Her legacy of compassion and community involvement resonates with all who knew her.

A graveside service will take place at New Tifereth Israel of Everett Cemetery, located at 232 Fuller Street, Everett, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 12 noon. Friends and family are welcome to attend to pay their respects and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in Florence’s memory to the American Heart Association or the Anti-Defamation League. Contributions can be mailed to the American Heart Association at P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692, and to the Anti-Defamation League at 605 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10158.
