In Cincinnati, Ohio, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson was tragically killed on Friday when he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at a University of Cincinnati graduation ceremony. The incident occurred shortly after the release of body camera footage depicting an earlier police shooting involving Deputy Henderson’s son, Ryan Hinton, who was fatally shot during a confrontation with Cincinnati Police officers.
Henderson was critically injured in the collision and was subsequently taken to UC Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigations have led to charges against Rodney Hinton Jr., the father of Ryan Hinton, who has been charged with aggravated murder for allegedly intentionally colliding with Deputy Henderson. At the time of the incident, Deputy Henderson was outside of his patrol car, actively managing traffic for the graduation event.
Rodney Hinton, 38, appeared in court the following day and is set for a bond hearing on May 6. Reports indicate that Hinton was visibly distressed after the release of the police body camera footage, which depicted the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of his son.
The incident that preceded Deputy Henderson’s tragic death involved his son, Ryan Hinton, who was 18 years old and was shot by police officers during a stolen vehicle investigation. Officers involved in the encounter reported that Ryan allegedly pointed a gun at them, prompting the use of lethal force. Following this event, the release of the footage reportedly left Rodney Hinton in a state of emotional turmoil.
Deputy Henderson had dedicated 33 years to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and was serving as a special deputy at the time of his death.
