Novant Health has announced plans to construct its first hospital in the Upstate region of South Carolina. The proposed project involves a 20-bed facility with an estimated cost of $132 million, aimed at enhancing access to outpatient care in the rapidly growing area of Greenville.
The hospital is set to be located on a 12-acre site on Patewood Drive, conveniently situated off Interstate 385. The land for the new hospital was acquired for $17 million in the previous year. In February 2025, Novant Health submitted its Certificate of Need application for the project, with a decision anticipated by summer 2025. If the application receives approval, the hospital could potentially open its doors as early as 2027.
Alongside the hospital, Novant Health plans to build a 100,000-square-foot medical office building. This added facility will focus on outpatient treatment and specialty care, featuring state-of-the-art operating rooms and advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities to optimize patient care.
Currently, Greenville County is experiencing a notable shortage of healthcare facilities, with a deficit of 111 hospital beds. This gap highlights the increasing need for additional services, and Novant Health’s project could help alleviate some of these healthcare pressures in the region.
Financially, Novant Health is well-positioned to undertake this expansion, reporting a robust $920 million in net income on operating revenues that approached $10.2 billion in 2024. This strong financial backing supports the company’s commitment to serving patients in the growing Greenville area, where the demand for healthcare services continues to rise.
