Myrtle Beach Weather Alert: Brace for Thunderstorms!

Good morning Myrtle Beach! It seems like we’re in for a bit of a rollercoaster today, as cloudy skies have set the stage for some serious weather drama. If you have outdoor plans, you might want to rethink them. Strong thunderstorms are rolling in later today, and the forecast is predicting a high of 81°F. Make sure you grab that umbrella!

As we approach the afternoon, keep an eye on the skies. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 5:00 PM for our area. What does this mean? Well, it means conditions are ripe for some lively thunder, potential wind gusts reaching 40 mph, and even marble-sized hail making a cameo appearance. Yikes! So, if you happen to be out and about, it’s wise to seek shelter indoors to avoid any flying debris from those gusty winds.

The winds are expected to come from the southwest at speeds of 10 to 20 mph. As we transition into the evening, expect thunderstorms to continue—this time, the chance of rain will ramp up to 70% as winds shift to the west-southwest at 10 to 15 mph. It appears we’ll settle into a partly cloudy night with temperatures dipping to a cool 58°F. So, if you have plans to go out tonight, don’t forget your raincoat!

As a side note, did you know that there are an average of 25 million lightning strikes each year in the U.S.? Most of them happen during summer. Unfortunately, they also lead to around 20 fatalities annually. So, while it can be exciting to watch a storm from your window, safety is paramount. Make sure those outdoor items are secured, and you’ve got a sturdy roof over your head when the storm rolls in.

Florence Welcomes Publix with Exciting News

46,791 square feet and will be located at the intersection of Palmetto Street and Ebenezer Road.

Although the grand opening date is still a bit of a mystery, this new addition will bring along approximately 140 jobs to the community, which is fantastic news for local employment. Interestingly, this will mark the 70th Publix store in South Carolina. Such a milestone!

53% of over 600 respondents expressed a keen interest in having a Publix in their area. Up until now, the nearest location for Publix fans in Florence has meant a drive of nearly 90 minutes to reach the Carolina Forest store. No more long drives for your groceries!
