Born in Rose Hill, North Carolina, Marguerite was the daughter of the late Edwin Lee Register, Sr. and Mildred Brown Register. She spent her childhood attending Dobson Chapel Baptist Church in Duplin County and contributed to her family’s country store at Register’s Crossroads, where she became known for serving cold ice cream to patrons on Sunday afternoons.
Marguerite attended East Carolina University for one year before marrying her high school sweetheart, John Gilbert Alphin, from Mount Olive, NC. After her marriage, she dedicated herself to being a loving wife and homemaker while also working in a family business in Kure Beach, NC. Her nurturing presence provided stability and love to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, reflecting the qualities of a wife of noble character as described in Proverbs 31.

Her daughters include JoAnn Alphin Alexander of Florence, SC, Callie Frances Bailey and her husband Joseph Ryan Bailey, as well as Anita Alphin Bryan and her husband William Smith Bryan Jr., who reside in Mount Pleasant, SC. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Edith Register Brinkley of Teachey, NC, and sister-in-law Catherine Blanchard Register. Several in-laws and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins also hold her memory dear.
The funeral services for Marguerite will be conducted on Wednesday, October 15, at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, NC, at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Wanda Simmons. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the service, a graveside burial will be held at the Gilbert and Eva Alphin Family Cemetery on Alphin Road in Mount Olive, NC.
