A shooting spree in Lexington, Kentucky has devastated the community, resulting in the deaths of two women and injuries to several others, including a state trooper. The suspect, Guy House, was involved in a traffic stop that led to violence and chaos at a local church. As the community grapples with grief and loss, there are calls for awareness on mental health and gun violence issues. The investigation continues as details about the suspect’s troubled background emerge.

Tragic Shooting Spree in Lexington Leaves Community in Shock

In a devastating turn of events on July 13, 2025, Lexington, Kentucky became the scene of a shocking shooting spree that has left the community mourning. Two women lost their lives, and several others were injured, including a Kentucky State trooper who tried to intervene.

The Incident Unfolds

It all began around 11:30 a.m. when a 47-year-old suspect, identified as Guy House, was pulled over after a traffic stop triggered by a “license plate reader alert.” During this traffic stop at Blue Grass Airport, things took a tragic turn when House shot the trooper, leading to his escape from the scene.

Fleeing from the airport, House carjacked another vehicle and headed for the Richmond Road Baptist Church. His motive for going to the church appeared to be in search of the mother of his children. Unfortunately, she wasn’t present, but what happened next was devastating: House shot and killed her mother, 72-year-old Beverly Gumm, and her sister, 34-year-old Christina Combs.

Injuries and Loss

Throughout this chaotic scene, House also injured two other men at the church. Those injured included Jerry Gumm, the church’s pastor and husband of Beverly Gumm, and Randy Combs, the husband of Christina Combs. Paramedics rushed them to the hospital, but the community has been left reeling from the loss of life and the suffering of those still fighting for their recovery.

Confronting the Suspect

Local law enforcement soon arrived at the church, confronting House. In a tragic end to this unfolding horror, the suspect was shot dead by police, bringing a swift conclusion to the armed rampage.

A Deeply Troubling Background

While the investigation is ongoing, some background on Guy House reveals a troubling history. His criminal record includes multiple convictions dating back to 1999, primarily for auto theft and probation violations. Notably, House had shown signs of a long-standing drug problem, particularly with methamphetamine, testing positive just last year, which led to a probation violation.

Family members have shared that he struggled with mental health issues, which may have contributed to his erratic behavior. House had violated his probation terms several times and was discharged from an outpatient treatment program for noncompliance. Despite these challenges, he was released from probation in January 2025, only a few months before this tragic incident.

The Community’s Response

The Richmond Road Baptist Church, known for its small, close-knit congregation, has been shaken to its core. The tragedy has left members grappling with grief and confusion as they try to process what happened. Community leaders and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear have expressed their condolences and called for prayers for the victims and their families during this incredibly painful time.

Looking Ahead

As the community mourns and begins to heal, the painful aftermath of this shooting spree serves as a stark reminder of the issues surrounding mental health, substance abuse, and gun violence. The investigation by Kentucky State Police continues as details emerge to help piece together the tragic events of that day.

As we reflect on this heart-wrenching story, our thoughts remain with the families of those affected, hoping for healing and comfort in the days to come.
