Columbia, South Carolina – LaNorris Sellers, a redshirt freshman quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks, has been named the SEC Freshman of the Year following an impressive season. Sellers showcased his notable skills by throwing for nearly 2,300 yards and 17 touchdowns while also rushing for over 650 yards and seven touchdowns across 11 games.

Born and raised in Florence, South Carolina, Sellers attended South Florence High School, where he built a reputation for maturity and athleticism. He started every game during his freshman and sophomore years. However, a shoulder injury during his junior season restricted his playing time. Despite the setback, his senior year proved to be extraordinary; he threw for 2,949 yards and 45 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,338 yards and 17 touchdowns, leading South Florence to the South Carolina 4A state championship.

After winning the championship, Sellers returned home to wash dishes, demonstrating humility even after such a monumental achievement. Throughout his high school years, he also inspired his two younger brothers, including Jayden, who has committed to play football for South Carolina in 2025. Sellers is known for his quirky personality, notably his habit of eating lemons whole.

During the recent college football season, Sellers played a pivotal role in helping the Gamecocks recover from a 3-3 start, leading the team to triumph in their final six games. This successful run included victories against prominent teams such as Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and arch-rival Clemson. His calm demeanor and competitive spirit have garnered recognition from teammates, including last year’s starting quarterback, Spencer Rattler, who has since moved on to the NFL.

Sellers’ growth as a player was bolstered by rigorous training and learning opportunities from Rattler during his freshman year. His parents fostered an open and supportive home environment, emphasizing emotional expression, which has played a crucial role in his development. Coaches have praised Sellers for being resilient, calm under pressure, and for his ability to learn from past mistakes, which has earned him the trust of teammates and coaching staff.

As a result, Sellers was named the starter, stepping up in a leadership role that has proven vital for the team. His brother, Jayden Sellers, also represents a promising addition to the South Carolina football program as a three-star recruit. Jayden had an outstanding high school career, amassing over 1,000 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns during his senior season, ultimately committing to USC despite other offers. The emphasis on player graduation rates at South Carolina was a significant factor in Jayden’s decision to join the program.

The Sellers family is now set to establish a legacy at South Carolina, with both LaNorris and Jayden poised to play at the collegiate level together. Their journey exemplifies not only sporting talent but also familial support and strength within the NCAA football community.
