News Summary

The Lake Murray Golf Center in Chapin is set to reopen following its closure in November. New owners plan a phased reopening, starting with a driving range and snack shack. Future phases will restore golf courses and introduce a full-service restaurant, aiming to revitalize the center and engage the community.

Chapin, South Carolina – The Lake Murray Golf Center, a popular recreational facility situated at 2032 Old Hilton Road in Chapin, is set to reopen under new ownership following its closure in November 2021. The property has been sold to CB Bros Holdings LLC and local entrepreneur Benjamin Hooker, although the sale price remains undisclosed. This 33-acre property was represented by Sam DeWess from the DeWess Real Estate Group during the transaction.

The reopening of the golf center will occur in three distinct phases, aimed at gradually revitalizing the facility and enhancing its offerings. Phase 1 will see the reopening of the driving range, as well as a snack shack that will provide a limited selection of food and beverages. Phase 2 is expected to restore the 9-hole par 3 course and the 18-hole putt-putt course, which have been long-standing attractions for families and casual golfers.

The final stage, Phase 3, is ambitious and aims to establish a full-service restaurant. This restaurant will not only serve food but will also incorporate live music and host community events, further integrating the golf center into the local community fabric. In the meantime, the facility will continue to be known as the “Lake Murray Golf Center,” but a rebranding effort is planned for later this year, which will introduce a new name and logo reflecting its family-friendly and golf-centric atmosphere.

Before the sale, the Lake Murray Golf Center was owned by The Guerry Family Trust. The center’s closure in 2021 left a void in the community, as it had been a popular venue for golf enthusiasts and families alike. The new ownership is optimistic about the facility’s potential and is looking forward to reintroducing it to the public. The phased approach to reopening is designed to ensure the smooth integration of services and amenities while gauging community response.

In speaking about the changes, the excitement surrounding the reopening is palpable, with expectations high for a renewed interest in the golf center and its offerings. The community is poised to engage once again with the center, which holds potential for creating recreational and social opportunities for local residents.

The Lake Murray Golf Center has a long history of serving the Chapin area and beyond as a hub for sporting activities and community engagement. The phased approach to its reopening signifies a commitment not only to revitalize the property but also to create a welcoming environment that appeals to families, golfers, and community members. As the new management plans to enhance the property, residents are hopeful for the center’s prospective role in the area’s social life.

With the reopening set into motion, the Lake Murray Golf Center is aiming to emerge from its dormant state with a revised vision, offering improved facilities while embracing its legacy within the Chapin community.
