News Summary

Authorities in Lake City have confirmed that human remains found in plastic containers belong to Christie Thomas Ward, a 50-year-old woman from North Carolina. The investigation continues, focusing on her husband, Charles Edward Antwine Jr., who has been charged with desecration of human remains. Ward’s death has been ruled as blunt force trauma, and both individuals were reported missing earlier. The case raises serious concerns about domestic violence and the nature of the couple’s relationship.

Lake City – Human remains discovered in plastic containers at a home near Lake City have been confirmed to belong to Christie Thomas Ward, a 50-year-old woman from Ocean Isle, North Carolina. The identification was achieved through forensic dental examinations conducted by the Medical University of South Carolina. The investigation into her death is ongoing, with law enforcement authorities focusing on her husband, Charles Edward Antwine Jr., who has been tied to the disturbing case.

Authorities determined that Ward died from blunt force trauma to the head, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken. Her husband, Antwine, aged 56, was taken into custody on June 16, after being charged with the desecration of human remains. The unsettling incident began when both Ward and Antwine were reported missing from their residence in Brunswick County, North Carolina, earlier in June.

The investigation took a critical turn on June 14, when a patrol deputy discovered a vehicle registered to Antwine that was mostly submerged in the Lynches River. This finding prompted deputies to visit Antwine’s property, where they detected an unusual odor emanating from inside the home. Upon obtaining a search warrant, they found Antwine sitting on a couch in the residence. During the search, human remains were discovered hidden in three plastic containers that had been taped shut.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing. Currently, however, they are not pursuing additional charges against Antwine. The authorities had been alerted by relatives who reported both Ward and Antwine missing, leading to the commencement of the investigation.

In light of these developments, questions remain regarding the circumstances surrounding Ward’s death and the nature of her relationship with Antwine. The investigation continues as the Florence County Sheriff’s Office strives to gather more information.

This tragic incident underscores the need for further examination of domestic relations and highlights the dangers that can sometimes occur within intimate partnerships. As law enforcement focuses on piecing together the details, community members express their shock and concern over the gruesome discovery.

Both families affected by this case are now living in the aftermath of loss and uncertainty, awaiting answers. Authorities are committed to ensuring that justice is served as they navigate the complexities of this harrowing situation.

While the investigation remains ongoing, community members are urged to come forward with any information that may assist in providing further clarity regarding the case. The loss of life and subsequent investigation holds profound implications for many, sparking conversations about safety and violence within households.

This case serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the complexities of human relationships. As new developments are awaited, the focus remains on justice for Christie Thomas Ward and closure for her loved ones.
