A serious collision on Interstate 95 in Florence County resulted in the death of a woman and left a teenager injured early Monday morning. The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes near mile marker 163, approximately one mile south of Florence.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident involved a 2024 Peterbilt car hauler and a 2015 Honda sedan, both traveling south on I-95. During the incident, the driver of the Honda attempted to overtake the car hauler. In the process, the Honda struck the trailer of the car hauler, causing the vehicle to veer off towards the right side of the highway and subsequently overturn.
Tragically, the female driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. As of mid-afternoon following the accident, her identity has not been released by the Florence County Coroner’s Office. In addition to her death, a 14-year-old passenger in the Honda sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The specific details regarding the extent of the teenager’s injuries remain unclear.
The driver of the car hauler was reported to have been unharmed during the collision. The significant impact of the incident prompted the temporary closure of portions of I-95 while authorities investigated and cleared the crash site.
Multiple agencies responded promptly to the scene, including the South Carolina Highway Patrol, West Florence Fire Rescue, Florence County EMS, and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is currently being conducted by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
