Investigations are ongoing into additional vehicle break-ins affecting local businesses, and community concerns about safety are escalating.
A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of break-ins and arson incidents in Florence, S.C. The suspect, identified as Madison Gage Hood, allegedly committed multiple crimes including stealing a car and attempting to set buildings on fire.
The Florence County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to several calls regarding break-ins in the area. Madison Hood was apprehended after he reportedly stole a vehicle parked outside a building on South Irby Street. Following the theft, Hood drove the stolen car into the building.
After crashing the vehicle, he allegedly threw a concrete block through the door and kicked in the entrance to the business. Investigators claim that Hood attempted to ignite a fire at another location on South Irby Street and successfully set a building ablaze on East Industrial Park Boulevard.
As a result of his alleged criminal activities, Hood is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center under a $130,000 surety bond.
In a separate incident, the Florence Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a break-in that affected at least 13 vehicles at Mcleod Hospital on February 7. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Florence Police Department at 843-665-3191.
This incident follows two smash-and-grab break-ins that occurred over the weekend at local gun stores. Both establishments were targeted by thieves who used stolen cars to drive through their entrances. The first incident took place at Triggers on Lloyd Avenue on Friday night, followed by another break-in at Range USA on Mall Road on Saturday night. Vehicles were left abandoned at the scene of both crimes.
Details regarding the merchandise or the number of firearms that were stolen during these break-ins have not been disclosed. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests or suspect information have been released in connection with these cases.
Adding to the recent wave of crime, a local shop owner, Darrell Triplett, reported that his store, The Sound Shoppe, was also broken into. This incident occurred on Wednesday night, marking the third time Triplett’s store has been targeted. During this break-in, six instruments valued at approximately $3,000 were stolen, including guitars, a violin, and a banjo, some of which were in for repairs.
Triplett has received information from another store owner regarding a suspect who attempted to sell three of the stolen instruments. The Florence Police Department has been collecting evidence, including fingerprints, footprints, and surveillance video, to aid in the investigation of the theft at The Sound Shoppe. Recent updates indicate that the stolen banjo has been successfully returned to its rightful owner.
The series of break-ins and arson incidents has raised concerns within the Florence community about safety and property security. Local authorities continue their investigations while encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. With community support and cooperation, law enforcement hopes to deter further criminal activities in the area.
As investigations continue, it remains imperative for the public to keep an eye on their surroundings and report any information that may assist in resolving these ongoing cases.
