The Florence Flamingos secured a decisive victory over the High Point-Thomasville HiToms with a final score of 15-10 in a thrilling summer league matchup at Carolina Bank Field. This win improved the Flamingos’ record to 5-6, demonstrating a strong offensive performance and capitalizing on the HiToms’ defensive mistakes.

The game showcased the Flamingos’ offensive capabilities, especially in the fourth inning, where they surged ahead by scoring six runs to break a 2-2 tie. Following this explosive inning, they added four more runs in the sixth inning, reinforcing their lead as the HiToms struggled defensively, committing a total of five errors throughout the game.

Several Flamingos players delivered outstanding performances. Nick Foster excelled with three hits in six at-bats, contributing two RBIs and a double. His teammate, Ethan Burkhardt, also shone with two hits in six at-bats, which included a double and two RBIs. Josh Williams, a local standout and former West Florence High player, went three-for-five, hitting a triple, earning two RBIs, and successfully stealing two bases. Pauly Mancino and Alex Laird made significant contributions as well, with Mancino recording two hits in four at-bats, driving in three RBIs, and Laird achieving three hits in four at-bats, including two RBIs.

The victory can be largely attributed to Christian Maige, who came in as the winning pitcher. He entered the game when the score was tied at 2-2 and quickly struck out the first batter he faced, signaling a shift in momentum for the Flamingos.

This win comes on the heels of a prior loss for the Florence Post 1, who fell to Manning-Santee with a score of 9-5 earlier in the week. In that game, Ben Milligan from Florence Post 1 managed to secure one hit in three at-bats, along with two RBIs. Bryce Blackburn from Williamsburg Academy was credited as the winning pitcher for Manning-Santee.

Williams has expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to play for his hometown Flamingos after transferring from North Greenville University, where he recorded a college batting average of .304, hitting four home runs and driving in 23 RBIs over 79 at-bats throughout his two-year career. He participated in 51 games, starting in 12, and is keen to continue developing his skills and competing daily in the Coastal Plain League.

The Flamingos will look to build on this victory and improve their standing in the league as they continue to navigate their summer season. With players like Williams stepping up and a solid performance demonstrated against the HiToms, the team appears to be heading in a promising direction.
