The conflict escalated after aggressive gestures led to the drivers confronting each other with firearms. Both vehicles were damaged during the exchange, yet fortunately, neither driver was injured. This incident is part of a worrying trend of gun violence in the region, prompting local law enforcement to enhance safety measures and address the rising tide of violence in the community.
Two individuals have been arrested and charged following a shootout that stemmed from a road rage incident in Florence County, South Carolina. The confrontation took place on July 25, near the intersection of Georgetown Road and Pocket Road, after the two drivers engaged each other in a verbal and ultimately armed conflict.
The incident originated in Darlington County, where James Donald Robinson and Monxavior Jatrabian Oumari Williams, the two drivers involved, began to exchange aggressive gestures as they drove. This altercation escalated when both vehicles stopped in Florence County, leading to a standoff on Pocket Road. During this confrontation, Williams stood in the roadway with a rifle, which prompted an exchange of gunfire between the two individuals.
Both vehicles involved in the incident reportedly sustained damage from the gunfire, yet remarkably, neither driver was injured during the shooting. Law enforcement officials have since charged Robinson and Williams with several offenses, including pointing and presenting a firearm and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.
The shooting incident is part of a troubling pattern of violence in the region. Just weeks before the road rage incident, a double shooting occurred on North Irby Street on June 19, resulting in one fatality and another individual in critical condition. Around 1:30 a.m., two victims were found lying on the sidewalk. The deceased victim was identified as 16-year-old Jai’Mere Jordan from Florence. The second victim remains hospitalized, with their condition classified as critical.
The investigation into the double shooting is currently underway, with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office providing assistance to local law enforcement in this ongoing case.
In addition to these incidents, another shooting dispute took place at a local fast food restaurant, where two individuals were arrested after one entered the establishment with an AK-47 rifle. The customer, identified as 24-year-old Daquan Markel Brown, confronted a 17-year-old employee named Eugene Travis McClease Jr. during an argument. Both individuals face charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
In a separate incident, authorities have charged a 17-year-old, Brian Maurice Wilds, with murder in connection to a prior shooting that occurred earlier on Meadors Road. This reflects a broader issue of gun violence in the area that law enforcement is working diligently to address.
In light of these recent events, local law enforcement has reaffirmed their commitment to tackling violence and enhancing public safety throughout Florence County. They are collaborating closely with local authorities to implement more robust measures aimed at preventing further incidents and ensuring the safety of the community.
As investigations continue into the various incidents, local officials emphasize the need for community vigilance and cooperation in addressing the rising tide of violence that has affected several neighborhoods throughout the county.
The series of events highlights an urgent need for preventive measures as authorities work to restore safety and reduce the likelihood of such violent confrontations in the future.
