Initial reports indicate that the truck was traveling east on Hyman Road when the driver lost control and veered off the right side of the road. After attempting to correct the course by steering to the left, the driver overcorrected, causing the truck to veer right again and ultimately collide with a tree.
The driver, identified as Willie Lee Jr., a 48-year-old resident of Coward, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Florence County Coroner, Keith VonLutcken.
