The pursuit, which included a PIT maneuver, led to charges of possession of a stolen vehicle. In a related incident, two suspects were arrested for drug offenses near a middle school after a separate chase. These incidents highlight ongoing issues with stolen vehicles and drug-related crimes in the area.
Florence County witnessed a chaotic drama unfold over the weekend, as local law enforcement officers pursued a stolen vehicle, leading to a thrilling high-speed chase and multiple arrests. Just after 1:00 p.m. on a sunny Saturday, the chase began on South Irby Street. It all started when deputies received a tip-off about a potentially stolen car roaming the streets, setting off a chain of events no one in the community would soon forget.
When the deputies spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, the driver took off, initiating a heart-pounding pursuit through the streets of Florence. The chase didn’t just end in the typical manner; it took a dramatic turn when a deputy’s patrol car accidentally collided with the pursuit vehicle. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident. Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop, and deputies were quick to detain the driver—whose identity was later revealed as Mara Ivey from Tennessee.
Alongside Ivey, another passenger, Charles Owens, also from Tennessee, was arrested. Both individuals are now facing serious charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle. What’s more, Ivey has an added charge for failing to stop when the blue lights flashed. Authorities had issued a FLOCK camera alert after getting word that this vehicle had been reported stolen from Marion County.
The pursuit continued on highways until deputies executed a specific maneuver known as the PIT maneuver, which successfully rolled the stolen vehicle onto its side. Talk about a scene right out of a movie! Both suspects were apprehended and later released from the Florence County Detention Center on bonds of $8,000 and $4,000 respectively, just in time for the weekend.
The pursuit took place ominously close to Iola Jones Park and Williams Middle School, heightening the stakes for local law enforcement. Eventually, both Roderick and Danell came to a halt on Buckingham Road, where they were taken into custody peacefully. Officers were able to recover around seven grams of cocaine inside the stopped vehicle, along with an additional 60 grams that had been tossed out during the chase.
