Florence Community Mourns the Passing of Dedicated Mother and Leader

Megan Heather Brown, a devoted mother and community leader, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with illness. She was 41 years old. The news of her passing has left a profound sense of loss among her family, friends, and the wider community in Florence, South Carolina.

Born on October 12, 1983, Megan grew up in a loving environment, raised by her grandparents, Michael and Myrtle Brown, who nurtured her into a compassionate individual. She attended Wilson High School and furthered her education at Florence-Darlington Technical College, where she studied Human Services. Her education contributed to her later career as a Seniors Activity Director at the Carolinian, enhancing the lives of the elderly community she served.

Megan’s work experience also included positions at Lowes of Florence and Kimbrell’s Furniture of Florence, where she was known for her hard work and dedication. However, her greatest pride and joy were her children; she was a devoted mother to Jaleen, Jacari, and Jada, and enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Miles. Surrounded by her family, she felt happiest, emphasizing her strong commitment to her loved ones.

Megan is survived by her loving partner, Steve, her three children, and her grandson, in addition to her siblings Mia Brown, Maleeka Brown, and Michael Brown. She was also cherished by family members Shemar and Quan. Her legacy is marked by the love and compassion she showed towards her family and friends, traits that will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

In the wake of her passing, the family has requested thoughts and prayers as they navigate this challenging time. Megan’s devotion to her family and community has inspired many, and her absence will be deeply felt across Florence.

Service Information

To honor her memory, services will be held on August 20, 2025, beginning at 1:00 pm (Eastern time) at Cumberland U.M. Church, located at 163 N. Coit St., Florence, SC 29501. Following the church service, she will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 2615 Alligator Road, Effingham, SC 29541. Attendees are encouraged to celebrate her life and raise their hearts in gratitude for the impact she made during her time on earth.
