Florence Post 1 secured its 17th consecutive American Legion league championship on Friday, triumphant with an impressive 8-4 victory against Sumter Post 15. This win enhances Florence’s stellar season, improving its overall record to 19-2, the best in the state, and a commendable League 2 record of 9-2.
Looking ahead, Florence Post 1 is scheduled to host Horry Post 111 on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The team will also face Summerville Post 21 on Thursday at 7 p.m. Following these matchups, the playoffs are set to commence on July 21, where Florence will host Game 1 of a best-of-three series. The subsequent state tournament will begin on July 25, with higher-seeded teams hosting the initial two nights. The final days of the tournament will be held at the University of South Carolina’s Founders Park.
During the championship match against Sumter, Florence showcased a remarkable performance with 11 hits. Among the standout players were Kason Herlong and Cooper Coleman, who contributed valuable doubles. Web Barnes had a notable outing, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
