Florence A. (Fain) Shecter, a longtime Peabody resident and former Dover, NH resident, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 92. She was known for her caring nature and commitment to helping others throughout her life.
Shecter was the beloved wife of the late Philip Shecter and is survived by her devoted children: Karen Shecter of Newton, MA, and Jim Shecter and his wife Melissa from South Carolina. She leaves behind many dear friends who cherished her kindness and thoughtfulness.
Born in Brockton, MA, Florence was the daughter of the late Isaac and Ruth E. (Sampson) Fain. She spent her childhood in Lynn, MA, where she graduated from Lynn Classical High School.
Florence Shecter dedicated her career to serving the community, working as a social worker for the Department of Employment for the State of New Hampshire for many years until she eventually retired. Known for her generous spirit, she often prepared meals for those in need and offered support to her friends and family during challenging times.
A graveside service to honor Florence’s life will be held at New Tifereth Israel of Everett Cemetery, located at 232 Fuller Street, Everett, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 12 noon. Friends and family are invited to attend to pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Florence A. Shecter to either the American Heart Association or the Anti-Defamation League, organizations that reflect her values and commitment to helping others. Donations can be sent to the following addresses:
