Florence, SC – A drone played a crucial role in the apprehension of a minor suspect involved in a break-in at the Carolina Bank Stadium on Sunday. The stadium, which is home to the Florence Flamingos summer college baseball team, was the site of unusual after-hours activity that prompted a swift police response.
Police officers responded to reports of suspicious individuals at the Carolina Bank Stadium, located off Jennie O’Bryan Avenue. Security cameras captured footage of three individuals inside the stadium after its closing hours. As officers arrived on the scene, they observed the suspects fleeing by jumping over the stadium fence.
Following the suspects’ escape from the stadium, they fled toward a nearby residential neighborhood. In order to locate the individuals, the Florence Police Department deployed a drone to assist in the search. The high-tech device proved effective, as it was able to spot one of the minor suspects emerging from the woods in the area.
The suspect located by the drone was apprehended and taken into custody. Subsequently, a second minor suspect was arrested the following Monday in connection with the break-in. Both minors are now facing serious charges, including second-degree burglary and criminal conspiracy.
Authorities are also working diligently to identify a third suspect involved in the incident. A photograph of this individual has been released to the public in hopes of gathering information that could lead to their capture. The police have urged anyone with information about the third suspect to contact them at (843) 665-3191.
The use of drone technology by law enforcement is becoming increasingly common as departments look for innovative ways to enhance their operational capabilities. In this instance, the drone’s assistance not only expedited the apprehension of a suspect but also highlighted its effectiveness in tracking individuals in challenging environments.
The Carolina Bank Stadium is a community landmark that hosts numerous events, particularly during the summer months, and has a significant following among local residents and baseball fans. The recent break-in has raised concerns among the community regarding security and the safety of public spaces.
This incident marks an ongoing trend in various regions, where local police departments are engaging more with modern technology to improve public safety. As drone surveillance becomes more established, it could provide law enforcement with valuable tools to respond to incidents more rapidly and effectively, ensuring the safety of both community members and property.
In conclusion, while the apprehension of two minors marks a significant step in addressing this particular break-in, the search for a third suspect emphasizes the challenges law enforcement continues to face. The public’s cooperation in providing tips and information is crucial as police efforts move forward to keep the Carolina Bank Stadium and its surroundings secure.
