Four dogs were found to have been exposed to a rabid raccoon near Albany Road and Chester Road in Coward, S.C. Testing confirmed the raccoon to be rabid, marking it as the first confirmed rabies case in Florence County for 2025. Thankfully, no human exposures to the raccoon have been reported, but the South Carolina Rabies Control Act mandates a quarantine for the exposed dogs. Officials are urging all pet owners to keep their animals up-to-date on rabies vaccinations.

More Troubling News: Malnourished Pit Bulls Rescued

In an even darker turn of events, deputies who were searching for a missing woman stumbled upon a disturbing scene: nine malnourished pit bulls. These dogs were found in deplorable conditions, allegedly chained to trees without adequate shelter or water. The poor pups bore visible signs of distress, including bite marks and serious injuries.
