The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating a tragic head-on collision that resulted in the death of Deputy Nathaniel “Nate” Ansay. The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, on U.S. Highway 301 near Blackwells Farm Road.
At the time of the crash, Deputy Ansay was traveling north on U.S. Highway 301 while a GMC SUV was heading south. The two vehicles collided, leading to both drivers being transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, Deputy Ansay succumbed to his injuries the following day, Wednesday, November 1, as confirmed by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Ansay, 24, was on duty when the tragic accident occurred. He had joined the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on October 30, 2021, and had recently graduated as a Class 1 officer from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy on March 15, 2024.
The news of Deputy Ansay’s death has resonated deeply within the community and beyond. Law enforcement agencies across the Pee Dee and Grand Strand regions have expressed their condolences, emphasizing the inherent risks faced by officers in the line of duty. The loss has prompted an outpouring of support and prayers directed towards the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
