Cantey was born on April 29, 1967, in Kingstree, SC, to William Corneilous Cantey, II and Sandra McKenzie Cantey. He graduated from Kingstree Senior High School and embarked on a successful career as a tank welder and inspector for T&M Transfer, where he dedicated 24 years of his life. Known fondly as “Neil the Wheel” among friends and family, Cantey was recognized for his meticulous nature, especially in his work, as well as for caring for his truck and yard.
Throughout his life, Cantey was not only a skilled tradesman but also a generous individual who frequently aided friends and neighbors without expecting compensation in return. He was a steadfast supporter of local businesses, often found enjoying meals at Johnny Boy’s. Cantey was well-known for his passion for classic cars and NASCAR racing, as well as his enjoyment of hunting and fishing in Williamsburg County. He often listened to music from the 70s at high volumes, bringing joy and energy into his home.
Neil Cantey was married for 27 years to Jade Hardee Cantey and together they raised a family that he cherished deeply. He is survived by two sons, Bill Cantey (Annie) of Arizona and Brock Cantey of Turbeville, SC. His daughters, Doty Cantey and Madison Cantey (Dario) Flores, both reside in Florence, SC. Additionally, he had a step-son, Kyle Newton from Sumter, SC, along with several step-grandchildren, including Avery, Kylie, and Wyatt, and one grandson, Samuel Nathan Flores. Cantey’s family tree also includes a sister-in-law, a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Unfortunately, Cantey was preceded in death by his sister, Patti Patrick, and two brothers-in-law, David Patrick and Chris Ward. His passing marks the end of a chapter filled with love, service, and dedication to family and community.
Funeral services for Neil Cantey were held on May 5, 2025, at Kingstree First Assembly. Prior to the service, family and friends gathered at the church to pay their respects, with the ceremony commencing at 4 PM. The family opted for private burial services following the funeral.
