An independent economic impact study has revealed that Clemson University generates a remarkable $6.4 billion economic impact on South Carolina. This significant figure was presented at the university’s Board of Trustees meeting on February 6, 2025, by the consulting firm Econsult Solutions Inc. The study encompasses a variety of economic contributions, including university operations, capital investment, workforce development, athletics, and the spending habits of students and visitors.
The analysis shows that for every dollar invested by the state of South Carolina in Clemson University, there is a substantial return of $35 in economic output. Additionally, this economic activity has led to the creation of around 37,100 jobs throughout the state. Clemson University is not only a hub of education but also a vital contributor to the state’s economy, generating approximately $114.4 million in annual state tax revenue.
The university’s economic influence is especially pronounced in the Upstate region, where its reported impact is $4.9 billion, supporting 27,900 jobs within that area. This localized effect further underscores Clemson’s role as a key player in the region’s economic landscape.
