Cheraw, SC – The community of Cheraw is mourning the loss of two beloved residents, Paul Tipton and Julia M. Grice, who both passed away recently, leaving a legacy of love and service to their families and the community.

Paul Tipton, aged 82, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at McLeod Health – Cheraw, with his family by his side. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends and family can pay their last respects from 2:00 – 3:00 PM on the same day.

Born on April 8, 1943, in Gate City, Virginia, Paul was the son of the late Wrightly and Dorie Sanders Tipton. After a long career, he retired from Jerry B. Leach Outdoor Equipment. He was a dedicated member of Windsor Park Freewill Baptist Church and was known for his warm greetings and welcoming spirit.

As an avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed activities like squirrel hunting, gardening, and peaceful walks. He is remembered as a loving father and brother, survived by his daughter Tonie T. (Ricky) Brock of Cheraw, grandson Cameron Brock of Davenport, Florida, and brother Joe (Geneva) Tipton of Gate City, Virginia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne, and several siblings. Memorials can be made in his memory to McLeod Hospice, McLeod Health Foundation, in Florence, SC.

Julia M. Grice, aged 90, passed away earlier at the McLeod Hospice House on July 4, 2025. Her funeral service will occur on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Cheraw Church of God, with interment to follow at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. Family and friends can visit from 12:30 – 2:00 PM before the service at the church.

Julia was born on January 3, 1935, in Blenheim, SC, to the late Julius Harley “Bud” and Hattie McDowell Monahan. She was a remarkable family matriarch, known for her dedication as a pastor’s wife and her fierce devotion to prayer. Julia was a talented singer and guitarist, as well as an exceptional cook and seamstress who cherished hosting family meals.

Julia’s family includes several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend R.P. Grice, daughter Angela “Angi” Carson, daughter-in-law Tami White Grice, and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions in honor of Julia Grice can be made to the Cheraw Church of God.

The community is coming together to support both families during this difficult time. Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield, SC, is assisting with the arrangements for both Paul Tipton and Julia Grice, allowing the community to pay their respects and celebrate the lives of these two cherished individuals.

As the community of Cheraw remembers the contributions and kindness that Paul and Julia brought to their lives, their spirits will continue to inspire and be a reminder of the strong bonds of family and friendship that endure beyond their passing.
