South Carolina – Honda South Carolina Manufacturing (SCM) has reached a significant milestone by producing its 500,000th side-by-side vehicle, a Pioneer 1000, on August 6. This achievement was celebrated at the Timmonsville plant, which serves as the exclusive global production site for Honda’s side-by-side lineup.

The SCM facility, spanning 950,000 square feet, opened its doors in 1998, initially focusing on the production of the Honda Foreman 400 ATV. Over the years, the plant has expanded its operations significantly. In 2000, the facility began producing engines for ATVs, and by 2003, it diversified further with the addition of personal watercraft production, namely the Honda AquaTrax.

Production of side-by-side vehicles commenced in 2013, and now, the plant manufactures all models in Honda’s Pioneer and Talon series. With the relocation of Honda’s ATV production to Swepsonville, North Carolina, the Timmonsville plant has become even more critical in Honda’s powersports strategy.

Throughout its 27 years of operations, nearly 1,000 associates at SCM have collectively produced over 3.8 million powersports products. The plant has also seen a substantial capital investment of over $460 million, reflecting Honda’s long-term commitment to operations in South Carolina.

The output from SCM has played a vital role in supporting Honda’s dealer network across North America and international markets. The production team at the plant, under the leadership of Travis Lee, has been commended for their dedication and passion that drove the facility to this milestone. The 500,000th unit, the Pioneer 1000, was notably driven off the production line by Glascow Montgomery, a veteran with 24 years of service at Honda, who underscored the priority of quality in every vehicle produced.

In the spirit of celebration, associates at the plant signed a commemorative banner in the cafeteria, marking this significant achievement in Honda’s history. Looking forward, Honda has expressed its commitment to continue investing in more efficient manufacturing practices while also preparing for the future of electrification in its product offerings.

As Honda SCM continues to grow and adapt to changing markets, the production milestone of the 500,000th side-by-side vehicle not only highlights the company’s contributions to the powersports industry but also the dedication of its workforce in South Carolina.
