FLORENCE, S.C. — The SC Pecan Music and Food Festival returns to downtown Florence on Saturday, and organizers expect roughly 50,000 people to fill a footprint that stretches across 11 blocks.

Festival chairman George Jebaily put the yearly economic impact on the city at about $3 million. This year brings nine stages of music and some 280 vendors lining the streets.

Admission is free, though amusements and some other attractions charge their own fees. The event goes on rain or shine and would be called off only for a declared state of emergency or dangerous weather.

The headline act takes the Main Stage at 5:30 p.m. Look for it on North Irby Street, set up near the county judicial center.

Organizers are steering drivers to free park-and-ride shuttles that loop every twenty minutes. Lots are at Hallmark Plaza at 953 S. Irby Street, Florence Regional Airport and Florence Mall at 1945 W. Palmetto Street. The first pickup is at 9:30 a.m., and the final run back to the lots leaves the festival at 8:00 p.m. Every shuttle is ADA accessible, but dogs cannot ride.

Free garages downtown include the city garage at 135 S. Dargan Street and the county garage at 124 W. NB Baroody Street. Leave the cooler at home, since outside ones are banned inside the gates.

Hannah Davis, main street program manager at the downtown development group, said many people get their first look at downtown Florence that day, and some later call asking about space for a business.
