LAKE CITY, S.C. — Voters in Lake City picked a familiar name for mayor on Tuesday, sending Larue Alford back to the office he held from 1999 to 2002.

Unofficial returns gave Alford 773 votes in a three-way contest. Incumbent Mayor Yamekia Robinson, who took office in 2023, finished with 575 votes, and Michael Donavan Nero drew 526.

The new mayor takes over a city that spent much of 2026 working through money trouble, at one point weighing a bankruptcy filing.

On the City Council, incumbent Wilhelmena Scott held on to the District 13 seat with 54 percent of the vote. Challenger Wanda Anderson had about 44 percent.

None of the numbers are final yet. The Florence County Board of Canvassers will review write-in votes and provisional ballots before certifying the results at a hearing set for 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
