FLORENCE, S.C. — Bryan A. Braddock will keep his District 3 seat on Florence City Council after winning the only contested council race on Tuesday’s ballot, unofficial results show.

Braddock, a Republican, drew 3,528 votes, close to 59 percent, against Democratic challenger Damonni Clayton. At 21, Clayton was the youngest candidate ever to seek a seat on the council.

Every other city council seat was uncontested this year, and so was every seat on Florence County Council.

Braddock won a special election to council in 2021, one year after he lost a bid for mayor, and later returned for a full term without opposition. He runs a real estate business and spent a decade leading House for Hope, a nonprofit that works on homelessness.

On election night he pointed to water infrastructure work, recruiting employers and new jobs, and public safety as the projects he wants to finish.

The count is not final yet. The Florence County Board of Canvassers will review write-in and provisional ballots and is scheduled to certify results at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
