MULLINS, S.C. — The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Monday night crash in which a South Carolina Highway Patrol vehicle and a bicycle collided at the intersection of U.S. Highway 76 and Stalvey Street in Mullins.

Officials said the collision occurred on October 12, 2026, at approximately 7:20 pm. The operator of the bicycle was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Florence County Sheriff T.J. Joye said preliminary information shows that the bicyclist pulled out in front of the trooper, and deputies have a witness who has not yet been interviewed.

A motor vehicle accident involving a State Trooper must be investigated by the Sheriff of the county in which the accident occurred, according to South Carolina Law. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office requested that the investigation be conducted by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. Yellow police tape blocked off the Highway 76 crash scene Monday evening.

Florence sits in the heart of the Pee Dee region. The city anchors a healthcare-and-logistics economy and serves as the commercial hub for eastern South Carolina, where Mullins crashes of this kind draw regional deputies.

Deputies said they are continuing to gather evidence at the U.S. Highway 76 and Stalvey Street intersection. No further details on the bicyclist’s injuries were released in the early public updates.
